My Story

This year will be my first ever Great North Run and I will be running it for the amazing charity, Childrens Heart Surgery Fund as this charity means alot to me and my family.

I was born with a hole in my heart - a congenital heart defect (CHD). I had this repaired by open heart surgery at Leeds General Infirmary when I was 11. A year later I had further open heart surgery to replace my aortic heart valve. If it’s quiet you might hear me tick!

My family and I have been supported during this time by Children’s Heart Surgery Fund (CHSF). Throughout the Heart Unit you can see many essential pieces of equipment that have been funded by the charity. They also fund accommodation at the hospital so parents can stay near their poorly children.

For me, they have provided a kit so I can test my blood at home instead of making frequent visits to the Warfarin Clinic. This has literally been a life saver for me.

Because of the support they’ve given me I want to be able to raise as much money as I possibly can for them so they can continue supporting other families like mine.

I would very much appreciate it if you could sponsor me for this thrilling event. Any amount is gratefully received. If you can’t sponsor, no worries - please would you share my story to raise awareness of CHD and this amazing charity.
