Richard Gowan fundraising for C.A.L.M.
My Story
I am fundraising for CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably) by participating in the Great North Run in September 2024. As a dedicated lifelong non-runner, ever since falling out with Mrs Roberts my P.E. teacher at school during the 1500m, the thought of doing the Great North Run scares the hell out of me! But the seriousness of too many friends and family members struggling with their mental health, and I include myself very much in this category, scares me even more, so I am doing this to help in as small a way as I can.
CALM is leading a movement against suicide, as every week 125 people in the UK take their own lives, with 75% of all UK suicides being male. Having only this spring seen another past work colleague has taken their own life the work that CALM does is more important to me than ever. CALM exists to change these awful statistics by offering life-saving services, provoking conversation, and bringing people together to reject living miserably.
From advice on their site, to free confidential chats with their helpline staff online or on the phone, CALM is there for whoever needs them every day. No matter what. With just £8, CALM can fund one potentially life-saving call.
By supporting my fundraising efforts for CALM, you can help make a difference in preventing suicide and promoting mental well-being. Together, let's create a world where no one has to suffer in silence.
Please consider making a donation towards my target amount of £350. Your contribution will go directly towards supporting CALM's vital work and saving lives.
Thank you for your support!
