My Story

On  Sunday September 8th, I will be running the Great North Run ( half-marathon/13.1miles) to raise money for The Lewy Body Society. Lewy body dementia is the second most common type of neurodegenerative dementia in older people. It is, "The most common type of dementia you've never heard of."

Why am I running for this cause? My lovely dad, Roger, was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia in December 2022. My stepmum had noticed subtle changes in his behaviour a few years prior to diagnosis, but the arrival of Covid and the social isolation that brought, combined with Dad's poor hearing made things more noticeable. Since then, he has faced many different challenges- physical weakness and Parkinson's type symptoms have had the most impact on him.

Anyone who knows me knows I have never been a runner. This challenge was inspired by my daughter Hannah, who ran the GNR last year for Lewy Body. I'm not sure I have 'enjoyed' becoming a runner, but my motivation for completing this run is to raise money for an incredibly worthy cause and hopefully raise awareness of this condition.

I will be running with the rest of my family on Sunday 8th. We are all very proud to be representing The Lewy Body Society. https://www.lewybody.org/
If you can support me with a donation, you will be helping someone like my dad.

Thank you xx

If you're unable to run and have to withdraw from the 2024 AJ Bell Great North Run, you have the option to defer your 2024 AJ Bell Great North Place to the next year.  You can find more information here.
