My Story

I moved to Southport in 2016 and as a single retiree; I needed to get out and meet new people. So on a friend's recommendation I joined our U3a having never before heard of the organisation.

I only started running properly during 2016 and I'm glad I did. Running is my therapy and it lifts the spirits when nothing else will do. By running this race and fundraising I can give a little something back and say thank you U3a for enriching my life

I am running as part of Team u3a at The Great North Run.

I will be raising money for The Third Age Trust, the organization which supports around 1,000 u3as across the UK.  u3a believes that learning can be life-changing. When members join u3a, they become part of a community – and through sharing their interests, they create new friendships.

The money I am helping to raise will go towards creating more learning and social opportunities for u3a members. It will help The Third Age Trust support existing u3as and facilitate the creation of new u3as in areas where they do not currently exist – ensuring that everyone has access to a u3a. Together, we can reduce loneliness.
