My Story

The past 18 months have probably been the most challenging of my adult life.  Grief and loss are a tough battle to contend with as an adult, but imagine dealing with this as a child, young person or young adult.

Grief and loss can occur in our lives in many different forms, from the parent who would take their children to the park for a picnic, to experiencing a life changing accident which sees the parent in a wheelchair; or a parent who has a job they truly enjoy and they suddenly develop a long-term health condition which leads to severe depression and their inability to cope with daily life.  For the children and young people in those families, their lives will never be the same.

My decision to take part in the Great North Run was inspired by a desire to embrace a new positive challenge and contribute towards the charity I work for.  To me, Eastern Ravens Trust is a beacon of hope and support for those children, young people and young adults who have found themselves in a caring role for other family members, offering a sanctuary where they can find respite from their burdens and the freedom to embrace their childhood and their youth, despite the weight of their responsibilities at home.

Regardless of personal adversities and doubts, Great North Run 2024 here I come!!
