About us

The Heart of the City Partnership is the charity that operates and preserves Newcastle Castle, and we're fundraising to help us fulfill our aim of putting the Castle back into the heart of Newcastle.

Our small but dedicated team is passionate about making Newcastle Castle as accessible as possible to the broadest range of visitors, giving everyone the best opportunity to experience and learn about this unique and important heritage site which gave the city its name.

As a Scheduled Ancient Monument, the Castle Keep at Newcastle Castle is remarkably well-preserved and protected, but this comes at the cost of maintaining the medieval staircase-only access. We want to develop new experiences which allow visitors to see, hear and touch the entirety of the building without having to leave our accessible ground-floor room, as well as enable those who can access the higher levels of the building to do so in comfort.

Every donation we receive for the Great North Run 2024 will be reinvested into making Newcastle Castle more accessible, and in turn helping more people engage with this vital piece of local history.
